ITA • Il progetto Enguera è nato dall’incontro tra la fotografa Stephanie Gengotti e il duo artistico spagnolo ‘Las Mitocondria’. Nell’ultimo decennio, Alicia Herrero e María Ángeles Vila sono state coinvolte nello sviluppo di progetti di ricerca sul ruolo di genere che la tradizione attribuisce alle donne. Enguera è un luogo, una radice, un mondo. Il riflesso sul mondo femminile non è contenuto all’interno di spazi chiusi e riservati, ma sceglie anche l'apertura. La sorellanza e i ricordi di famiglia lasciano la membrana interna per muoversi verso l’esterno, nell’ambiente sociale. Così le immagini ci conducono in un territorio fatto di una continua alternanza tra vita quotidiana e formalità, sorellanza e intimità, natura e religione… dove è necessario trovare un centro di gravità all'inevitabile susseguirsi e intrecciarsi del sostegno femminile attraverso le generazioni. La ricostruzione scenica dei ricordi diventa un’occasione per il tempo presente. I ricordi diventano una possibilità di riflessione e di ri-appropriazione. Enguera è un progetto continuo, come le donne che lo animano.

ENG • The project Enguera was born from the encounter between the photographer Stephanie Gengotti and the Spanish artistic duo ‘Las Mitocondria’. Alicia Herrero and María Ángeles Vila have been engaged in developing research projects about women's traditional gender roles for the past decade. Enguera is a place, a root, a world. The reflection on the feminine world does not fold into closed and reserved spaces but also chooses openness. The sorority and family memories leave the internal membrane to move towards the outside, the social environment. Thus the images lead us into territory made up of a continuous alternation of everyday life and formalities, sisterhood and intimacy, nature and religion... where it is necessary to find a center of gravity in the inevitable succession and intertwining of female support through generations. The scenic reconstruction of memories becomes an occasion for the present time. Memories become a possibility for reflection and re-appropriation. Enguera is an ongoing project like the women who animate it.

ITA • Stephanie Gengotti è una fotografa Italo/Francese con base a Roma. Si laurea come interprete in lingua inglese e francese, si diploma in fotogiornalismo alla Scuola Romana di Fotografia, dove segue anche un master di moda e ritratto. Vive la fotografia come un mezzo quasi terapeutico, un canale senza filtri per comunicare con il soggetto, in un flusso di condivisione continua per illuminare le zone d’ombra e gli aspetti irrisolti della coscienza del Soggetto e dell’Artista; spesso la necessità di instaurare un rapporto empatico e diretto, la conduce a vivere nella stessa casa e nella medesima quotidianità dei protagonisti delle sue storie. Lo scatto fotografico diventa quindi solo l’ultimo atto, la catarsi, di un lento e lungo percorso di conoscenza. Il suo lavoro è stato esposto in festival e gallerie in Italia e all’estero. Collabora per le più importanti testate italiane ed estere quali Internazionale, GEO Magazine, Le Monde Magazine, Stern, DER Spiegel, National Geographic, The New York Times, The Sunday Times Magazine, Sekai, The Guardian, Le Monde, 6 Mois, L’Espesso, Yo Dona, El Mundo, Vanity Fair, IL, Il Reportage etc. E’ attualmente rappresentata da Institute Artist.
ENG • Stephanie Gengotti is a photographer of Italian/French nationality based in Rome. She has a degree in English and French Translation, a graduate diploma in photojournalism issued by the Scuola Romana di Fotografia, where she also attended a Master class in fashion and portrait photography. She experiences photography as an almost therapeutic medium, an unfiltered channel to communicate with the subject, in a continuous sharing flow to light up the shadow areas and unresolved aspects of the consciousness of both the Subject and the Artist. The need to establish an empathic and direct relationship often leads her to live in the same house and in the same identical daily routine as the main characters in her stories. A photograph is only the very last act, the catharsis, in a long and slow knowledge path. Her work has been awarded and exhibited in numerous shows in Italy and abroad. She works mainly with reportage photography and portrait. Important editorial assignments and publications have included work for Internazionale, GEO Magazine, Le Monde Magazine, Stern, DER Spiegel, National Geographic, The New York Times, The Sunday Times Magazine, Sekai, The Guardian, Le Monde, 6 Mois, L’Espesso, Yo Dona, China Newsweek, El Mundo, Vanity Fair, IL, Il Reportage etc. She is currently represented by Institute Artist.
