ITA • Le reti fantasma sono una delle principali cause dell'inquinamento da plastica che affligge i nostri mari. Esistono realtà come quella della laguna di Scardovari (RO), dove Roberto e il fratello Marco gestiscono un’attività di mitilicoltura, che si sono adoperate per cercare una soluzione a questa problematica. Roberto era il presidente della "Cooperativa Fra Pescatori dell’Adriatico" quando quest’ultima aveva vinto un bando europeo per lo studio dell'uso delle reti biodegradabili in mare. “Sebbene fossero troppo deboli per il mare aperto, le reti biodegradabili erano davvero ottime per l'allevamento di mitili e soprattutto per l’ambiente” spiega Roberto. “Al termine del progetto però nessuna azienda ha voluto prendere in mano la produzione a causa del costo troppo elevato. Solo se rese obbligatorie da delle leggi statali verranno utilizzate su larga scala. Fino ad allora, nonostante inquinino e creino rifiuti non riciclabili, dato il loro minor costo di produzione, saranno sempre preferite le reti in plastica”.
ENG • Ghost nets are one of the main causes of plastic pollution plaguing our seas. There are realities like the one of the Scardovari lagoon (RO), where Roberto and his brother Marco manage a mussel farming business, who have worked to find a solution to this problem. Roberto was the president of the “Cooperative among Adriatic Fishermen” when the latter won a European tender to study the use of biodegradable nets at sea. “Although they were too weak for the open sea, the biodegradable nets were really excellent for mussel farming and above all for the environment” explains Roberto. “At the end of the project, however, no enterprise wanted to take over production due to the cost being too high. Only if made mandatory by state laws will they be used on a large scale. Until then, despite the fact that they pollute and create non-recyclable waste, given their lower production cost, plastic nets will always be preferred."

ITA • Annalaura Cattelan è una fotografa documentarista nata a Vicenza nel 1995. Nel 2018, dopo la laurea in Filosofia e Scienze Umane presso l'Università Ca' Foscari Venezia, si trasferisce a Milano, dove tutt’ora vive, per studiare all'Istituto Italiano di Fotografia. Dopo gli studi ha iniziato a lavorare come nel settore della fotografia, prima come assistente sia luci che digitale e poi come fotografa. Si occupa principalmente di reportage, ritratti per editoriali, moda ed e-commerce. Contemporaneamente lavora a progetti personali che trattano prevalentemente di tematiche riguardanti i diritti, le attività sociali, la cultura, gli animali e l’ambiente. In occasione della XIX edizione del Premio Ponchielli, nel 2023 ha ricevuto la menzione WeWorld.
ENG • Annalaura Cattelan is a documentary photographer born in Vicenza, Italy, in 1995. In 2018, after graduating in Philosophy and Human Sciences at the Ca' Foscari University of Venice, she moved to Milan, where she still lives, to study at the Italian Institute of Photography. After her studies she began working as she did in the photography sector, first as both a lighting and digital assistant and then as a photographer. She mainly deals with reportage, portraits for editorials, fashion and e-commerce. At the same time, she works on personal projects that mainly deal with issues relating to rights, social activities, culture, animals and the environment. On the occasion of the 19th edition of the Ponchielli Prize, in 2023 she received the WeWorld
mention.
